Mapping out the journey east I've tried to split it into legs that I think will be manageable. I've never driven this far before, but I have spent up to 12 hours in the car in a single day, so I know my mental limit. Aiming for not much more than 700 miles/day because that's what I think I can handle.
My overnight stops along the way include a campground at Cabela's world HQ and 'boondocking' at a few truckstops that allow RVs. Aiming for places that are safe and have showers/bathrooms that are currently open. I've read some horror stories, so there's a backup plan for each stop.
Speaking of stops, there are endless places across this country to explore by bike, so that should help to make the journey a little more interesting. If I can stop each day and go pedal for an hour or two, it'll keep the blood flowing and give me a mental break from the monotony of driving - that's the theory anyway.
And then there's business, not work, but doing my business, because I rented a trailer with no bathroom. I'm inclined to bring a porta-potti just in case I can't find facilities along the way that can be used in a covid-safe manner. This year being so different from anything before, I'm doing my best to be prepared for anything. One month to go before I hit the road.
